Samsung SM-G9600

Just like Galaxy S7 and other Galaxy S flagship phones, we will have few Galaxy S8 variants unveiled by the end of the year and before the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are unveiled next year at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) in Barcelona, Spain. After Galaxy S8 Active, a mysterious device named as Samsung SM-G9600 has passed GeekBench.

A very well-known leakster Roland Quandt has stated about Samsung working on a new phone which seems like a ‘replica’ of Samsung’s Galaxy S8. In other words, it seems to be a dubbed version of S8 Mini or Galaxy S8 Lite.

The Geekbench website has stated, that, the new phone series is called as Samsung SM-G9600. It is powered by Qualcomm chipset and is mentioned as Snapdragon 840. As Snapdragon 840 features a quad-core processor, it could be a revised edition of Snapdragon 820 chipset.

The Snapdragon 835 chipset that powers a lot of smartphones including Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, features an Octa-core processor – Reports by Quandt.

The phone ‘Samsung SM-G9600‘ as per the reports runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS. The chipset is supported by 4 GB of RAM, and the quad-core processor is clocked at 1.77 GHz. The score is shown as 1782 points on the single-core test and 4212 points on multi-core test. However, no information related to GPU was revealed but it could be Adreno’s latest unit.

It is to be noted that Qualcomm has recently launch Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform as an upgraded version of Snapdragon 625 SoC and it also introduced Snapdragon 660 chipset as an improved version of Snapdragon 652/653 SoC.

Galaxy S8 has a model number of SM-G950 and in China, its model number is SM-G9500. SM-G9600 is definitely not the Galaxy S9 even though the speculators had displayed it to be one. It is assumed that it would be released exclusively in China and it may release as a lighter version or a mini version of Galaxy S8.

Samsung is said to have not released a mini version for Galaxy S6 from 2015 and Galaxy S7 from last year. Therefore, it may release Galaxy S8 Lite. The released smartphone could compete with the LG Q6 that was released with lower-end specs and LG G6.

Based on the above-said scenario, the ‘Lite or a Mini variant of the Galaxy S8’ will not be available for sale in India as of now.
