The Android Oreo update is now rolling out to a number of devices including the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus which was interrupted a couple of days back. The Android Oreo phones list is almost finalized but the fact remains the same as the Android upgrades/update are still slow in adoption.
Android Oreo is more than nine months old and still, just 1.1% devices run on it (source: Android developers). That stats still hasn’t improved.
Android Q update
The Google is verge on announcing the next Android version, so-called the Android 9.0 P version and the first developer preview of it was released just a couple of days back. Google I/O 2018 is scheduled to be held on 8 May to 10 May and possibly this could be the date that Android P will get a name.
As a matter of fact, every year Google announces a new Android version and it’s happening since 4.1 Jelly Bean announcement in 2012.
This year at Google I/O, Android 9.0 version is expected and in the similar fashion Android Q aka Android 10 will be announced at Google I/0 2019. However, the development of Android Q version will begin early and there might be two to three developer preview version before it’s official.
Android Q Name
Coming to the Android Q name, Google has always adopted a system of naming the Android version by famous desserts in an alphabetical manner. For example, take Android 5.0 is known as Lollipop and so Android 7.0 is Nougat.
The next Android version could take up the following names as suggested:
- Android Quark
- Android Quail
- Android Quahog
- Android Quince
- Android Queso
- Android Quinine
- Android Quaker Oats
- Android Quenelle
- Android Quesadilla
- Android Quiche
That doesn’t sound known names.
Android Q Release Date:
Android Q development will start in early 2019. First there will be Android Q Developer Preview 1 and then after a month Android 10 Developer Preview 2 will be released.

OnePlus 6 Android Q update: This latest flagship OnePlus phone will get the latest update released by Google although it will be based of OxygenOS version, maybe OxygenOS 5.2.
