After killing off its smartphone business with the failure of Fire Phone in 2015, Amazon is set to return as all new ‘Ice phone‘ is rumored. Familiar sources with the matter reveals that Amazon likes to put behind Fire Phone failure and concentrate on what’s lies ahead of them. Analysts says that having a stake in the smartphone space is still important, especially when you have so many inter-connected devices which are generally handled by smartphone.
Leaving behind United States and Europe, Amazon wants to try their new smartphone in emerging markets like India. India is one the fastest growing country in the world. Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo have achieved huge success in past years. Maybe that’s the reason why Amazon has choosen India as their first key market.
Amazon has plans to launch series of smartphones in India and by the year end they will have atleast one smartphone. One of the device being tested has 5.2-inch to 5.5 inch display and includes 13 mega pixel rear camera, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB inbuilt storage and runs on customized software version based Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
All new Amazon’s 2017 smartphone is being referred ‘Ice’ and it’s not clear that it will remain as the official name of it. Amazon declined to comment on these rumor but it looks like that with Internet of Things (IoT) being the future of technology, a lot of inter-connected products will comes in future and they can be control by using a smartphone. Amazon has already unveiled Echo, Echo Dot powered by Amazon Alexa, an AI-powered digital voice assistant.
Just like Fire Phone, the Amazon Ice phone will be an ultra-cheap handset priced at $93. Amazon has committed to invest more than $5 billion(approximately Rs. 33,330 crores) in India.
