After challenge posted by Reliance JioPhone, Airtel was quick to respond as they have announced ‘Airtel A40‘ phone. It comes nearly three months after the launch of JioPhone. The all new cheap and affordable Airtel 4G smartphone is effectively priced at Rs. 1399 and manufactured by Karbonn Mobiles in India under the branding “Make in India”.
Along with it company also announced a new Airtel A40 plan with recharge of Rs. 169 per month. This will give you 0.5 GB of data per day and unlimited calls for 28 days.
It’s a perfect fitting answer to JioPhone which is sold by collecting Rs 1500 as security deposit at first. Sadly, at first you will have to Rs 2899 as a down payment to get the Karbonn A40 and make 36 months continuous recharges of Rs. 169. You will get cash refund of Rs 500 after 18 months and another Rs 1000 after 36 months. That means that customers can take benefit of Rs 1500 and thus the effective price of the device is Rs 1399.
Unlike JioPhone which tried to bring everything under featured phone, this one happens to be a touchscreen smartphone. Going by the records, it’s the cheapest touchscreen smartphone available in India right now. It has some smart features that are not found on JioPhone. You can run WhatsApp, YouTube and Facebook on the A40 smartphone.
There is one area where JioPhone might excel Airtel A40 – i.e., the battery life and performance thanks to its unique software.
Talking about the Karbonn A40 aka Airtel A40 Specifications, the device is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core processor coupled with 1 GB RAM on top of a 4-inch touchscreen display. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and supports 22 Indian languages.
Airtel 4G phone includes proprietary apps like MyAirtel, Wynk Music and Airtel TV on the device, which can’t be uninstalled.
