Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) edge past Kings XI Punjab to register a vital win to separate them from three other team in the IPL points table. It was a convincing performance by defending champions, as they defeated KXIP, home team by 26 runs.

Kings XI captain Glenn Maxwell won the toss and elected to bowl first. SRH openers – David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan gave them a scintillating start as they posted yet another 100-run partnership. Warner was first to go scoring 51 off 27 balls but Dhawan continued to score 77 off 48 balls. Batting one down, Kane Williamson was once again impressive as he scored 54 not out in 27 balls to give his team 207 runs on the scoreboard. The inning was all about top three batsman, all scoring half century. With 2 wickets for 29 in four overs, part-time spinner Glexx Maxwell was pick of the bowlers.

207 is a mountain of runs to chase and you need a solid opening start but that didn’t happen. Purple Cap holder, Bhubaneshwar Kumar dismissed Martin Guptill in the third over and KXIP were reduced to 42-3 after 5 overs. No other batsman except Shaun Marsh showed intent to chase 207 as they were 26 runs short. Shaun Marsh scored 84 runs off 50 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes.

Rashid Khan won the Man of the Match award for his economical bowling figure of 16 for 1 in four overs ahead of Siddarth Kaul 3 for 36 and Kumar’s 2 for 27.

In terms of numbers, it was sixth successive win for Sunrisers over Kings XI Punjab. They now have 11 points after 9 games, pushes them to third on the points table.
