Royal Challengers Bangalore this season is struggling in all dimensions. Setting a target or chasing one, is out of their reach. After their tragic 49 all out against Kolkatta Knight Riders, RCB in the chase of modest 138 were once again all out for 119. IPL 2017, match no. 43, King XI Punjab beat host RCB at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore by 19 runs in a low scoring game.
RCB’s captain Virat Kohli won the toss and put visitors to bat first. It was not a good start by KXIP as they the top-order batsman struggled to score. They laboured to 35 and lost both their openers cheaply to RCB early advantage. Middle-order batsman – Shaun Marsh, Maxwell, Saha all got a start but couldn’t convert them into a big one and RCB’s spinners were once again economical with a combined figure of 56 for 3 in 10 overs. Once again it was Axar Patel cameo inning of 38 off 17 balls helped the visitors put 138 on the scoreboard.
Sandeep Sharma rocked the Bangalore’s chase as he dismissed RCB’s top three – Kohli, Gayle and de Villiers for a combined total of mere 16 runs. Mandeep Singh top scored with 46 off 40 balls as no other batsman stood on the crease as the team was bundled out for 119 in the 19th over. Sandeep Sharma was awarded Man of the Match ahead of Axar Patel who also picked up 3 wickets for 11 runs.
With this win, King XI Punjab keep their hunt for play-off hopes as they now have 5 wins in 10 games. They atleast need to win 3 of their remaining four games to make it for play-offs.
