The Kings XI Punjab refuse to give up as they win against Kolkatta Knight Riders in Mohali on Wednesday. With this win, King’s keeps their playoff chances alive. KXIP bowler’s regrouped to produce sensational bowling display led by Mohit Sharma and legspinner Rahul Tewatia helps them to defend modest 167 as KKR were bowled out for 153 for 6, winning the match by 14 runs.
Kolkatta Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field at Mohali’s IS Bindra Stadium and host the read the pitch very well. After losing three wickets for 56 in 8.3 overs, Maxwell and Saha realized that this isn’t 180 runs pitch. Both added 71 runs for the fourth wicket partnership and laid the platform for the upcoming batsman. Maxwell made 44 off 25 balls with 4 sixes and Saha added 38 off 33 balls. In the end, Tewatia scored 15 off 8 balls to help KXIP post 167 on the scoreboard.
There haven’t been too many better bowling performances in IPL to defend a total. After losing 1 wicket for 76 in nine overs, for KKR who has best hitters in business, lost the match by 14 runs in the end. This season Knight Rider’s have chase down big totals comfortably. It’s not that KKR failed but King XI Punjab bowled well. They gave only 77 runs while taking five wickets in the last 11 overs.
It was Rahul Tewatia who set up things by dismissing Gautam Gambhir and Uthappa in the tenth over of the match. Playing his first match this season, he was very impressive in the middle overs and finished with 2 for 18 in four overs. In the end, Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma bowled impressive spells to apply breaks to KKR’s chase. Chris Lynn was looking dangerous with 83 off 51 balls but his dismissal as run-out in 18th over made things worse for the visitors as they required 37 off 18 balls. In the 19th over Sandeep Sharma dismissed Yusuf Pathan and gave only 8 runs and they were brought down to 20 off the last over. Mohit Sharma just gave five runs in the final over to give his team win by 14 runs.
