Sunrisers Hyderabad have qualified for the play-offs as they hand Gujarat Lions a defeat in their final league match. With this win, defending champions accumulates important two points and fancy their chances of finishing in the top two.
Final their final league match in a must-win encounter, Sunriser’s captain David Warner opted to bowl first at Green Park Kanpur which has always assisted the run-chasing team. It proved to be the right decision, in the end, Sunrisers won it comfortably. More importantly, it was last IPL game for Gujarat Lions, a franchise which will be discontinued based on contract. Both Gujarat & Pune will pave way for Chennai Super Kings & Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018.
Gujarat Lions were off to a flying start, their best this season as Ishan Kishan & Dwayne Smith added 111 partnership for the opening wicket scoring at 10 runs per over. Rasheed Khan got rid of Smith first and then Mohammed Siraj returned to dismissed Ishan Kishan and Suresh Raina in the thirteenth over. Rasheed Khan then put Sunrisers on top as he got rid of Finch and Faulkner in the next over. No other Gujarat batsman stayed the crease as we witnessed one of the worst batting collapse in IPL. From 111 for no loss to 154 all out, loosing their 10 wickets for 53 runs. Rashid Khan picked up three wickets, Bhubaneshwar Kumar got 2 and Mohammed Siraj finished with figures of 4 for 32, his career-best bowling performance.

Deepak Hooda replaced Yuvraj Singh who was out with a sore finger but his services weren’t required as Sunrisers won it comfortably by 8 wickets remaining in the chase. David Warner & Vijay Shankar were involved in 133 run partnership.
