Rising Pune Supergiant have posted their sixth win this season as they beat Gujarat Lions in a nail-biter. Ben Stokes hammered an unbeaten 103, his maiden T20 hundred in the chase to give his team a five-wicket win.
Playing at their home venue, Pune won the toss and elected to bowl first. Gujarat opener’s – Ishan Kishan and Brendon McCullum were off to a flying start as they added 55 runs in the powerplay. Kishan was outdone by Imran Tahir but not before he posted 31 runs off 24 balls. Imran Tahir dismantled the Gujarat’s middle-order as he removed Aaron Finch and Dwayne Smith in the successive balls and returned with an impressive spell of 3 for 27 in four overs. Further, in the slog overs, Unadkat bowled really well to restrict Lions to a modest total of 161.
In the chase, Pradeep Sangwan, playing his first match of the season removed Rahane and Smith. Pune was reduced to 10 for 3 at one point. It was Ben Stokes, with little contribution from MS Dhoni and Daniel Christian gave them a last-over victory. Pune’s chase was all about two partnership – MS Dhoni and Stokes added 78 runs for the sixth wicket and Stokes – Dan Christian (scored 17 off 8 balls) unbeaten partnership of 49 propelled their team to empathic win.
With this win, Pune has gelled together as a team and now move to fourth in the points table. It gives them a great chance to qualify for the playoffs.
