Shreyas Iyer 96 helps Delhi chase 196, defeats Gujarat Lions by 2 Wickets

Delhi Daredevils has defeated Gujarat Lions by two wickets in a close contest as they once again chase down a big total yet again. It was young Shreyas Iyer who scored 96 runs under pressure to defy Gujarat a win. It was a dead rubber as both teams are out of Indian Premier League along with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Delhi won the toss and elected to bowl first, at Green Park, Kanpur. All the three IPL matches played at Kanpur were won by the team batting second. This was the first match at Green Park Kanpur this season.

Dwayne Smith’s poor form continues as he was run out on 8. Lions captain, Suresh Raina was undone by speedster Cummins & Ishan Kishan was caught off Mishra bowling as Gujarat were reduced to 56 for 3 after 6.3 overs. It was Aaron Finch and Dinesh Karthik 92 runs partnership propelled Gujarat in the middle overs. Karthik was first to fall after scoring 40 of 28 balls but Finch brought up his half-century and was undone by Mohammed Shami in the penultimate over. He remained the top scorer adding 69 off 39 balls as Gujarat finished the inning with 195 on the scoreboard.

In the chase, Samson was dismissed by Sangwan Rishabh Pant was caught short of the crease courtesy to direct him from Suresh Raina from the slip position. It was Shreyas Iyer punished the loose Lions bowling and kept Delhi in contention. First, he involved in 57 run partnership with Karun Nair and then 61 run partnership with Cummins. He was dismissed on 96 in the last over and DD still required 8 runs off 4 balls. It was Amit Mishra who took his team home by smashing 8 off 2 balls.
