Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson brought a brutal end to Gujarat Lions campaign as Delhi Daredevils chase down a total of 208 in the 42nd match of Vivo Indian Premier League 2017. Both wicket-keeper batsman were involved in 143 off 63 balls partnership as they made such huge total look small, infact Delhi won by 7 wickets with 15 balls to spare.
Delhi won the toss and without any surprise, they opted to bowl first. An impressive spell from Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins left Gujarat reeling at 10 for 2 by the second over. Right from the first ball, Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik fired punished Delhi bowlers as 133 runs for the third wicket, highest partnership ever for Gujarat in IPL. Rabada finished with 28 for 2 and Cummins went for 30 for 2 as Gujarat Lions posted a huge total of 208 on the scoreboard.
Delhi new Captain had just one plan – ‘hit hard and have fun‘ and it was perfectly executed in this game as two of their youngest batsman who masterminded this mammoth chase. Both batsmen hit 16 sixes in between them as they made a mockery Gujarat’s score. By the end of 15th over, it was purely a one side game as asking rate was below run-a-ball. This is the second highest run chase in the IPL history and highest chase at Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi. 19 years old fearsome Indian wicket-keeper batsman was rewarded with Man of the Match award for his 97 off 43 balls at a strike rate of 225.58. Sanju Samson also scored 61 off 31 balls.
Delhi still has some hope to qualify for play-offs if they win all their remaining four matches provided Sunrisers doesn’t win any of their remaining three games.
