Kolkatta Knight Riders (KKR) is a much powerful team when they play at home ground, Eden Gardens, Kolkatta. Struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) took on Kolkatta Knight Riders in the 27th league match of Vivo IPL 2017 and it was an eventful night as unexpected records were broken.
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain won the toss and elected to bowl first. For KKR, it was once again Sunil Narine and Gautam Gambhir who opened the inning and Sunil Narine once again performed exceptionally well as he scored quick-fire 34 runs in 17 balls. Narine, remained the highest score in the inning as his team, for the first time collapsed to batting failure and were all out for 131. They scored 65 runs in the mandatory powerplay but RCB spinners took the charge to reduce home team from 81 for 3 to 131 all out as Chahal picked up 3 for 16, Pawan Negi picked up 2 for 15 and Samuel Badree got the wicket of Uthappa, who played a gem of inning in the last match.
After reduced to 131 in the first inning, KKR produced a majestic bowling performance to bowl out RCB for 49, the lowest total ever in the IPL history. It was a disgraceful batting performance from RCB, as KKR shows intent to defend 131, an easy score to chase in any Twenty-20 Cricket game.
All the RCB’s batsman were out for single digit score as KKR pacers completely outperformed them. Nathan Coulter-Nile picked up 3 for 21, Chris Woakes 3 for 6, de Grandhomme picked up 3 wickets for 4 runs to bundle out RCB within 10 overs.
At the end, it was only the second time that 20 wickets have fallen in an IPL match. Nathan Coulter-Nile was adjudged with Man of the Match award during the post-match presentation ceremony.
