Kolkatta Knight Riders have suffered back to back losses as they lost to visitors Rising Pune Supergiant by four wickets. A disciplined bowling attack and Rahul Tripathi’s onslaught – hitting 93 runs off 52 balls helped Pune to post back to back wins, more importantly, the third spot in the points table.
Played at Eden Gardens, Steven Smith, Pune’s captain won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 41st IPL 2017 league match. Robin Uthappa’s absence cost his team a loss as batsman struggled early-on. Sunil Narine was dismissed off Jaydev Unadkat in the first over, which was a maiden. Then Washington Sundar removed both Gambhir and Jackson as KKR were reduced to 40 for 3. Imran Tahir then caught Yusuf Pathan leg before wicket as Pune bowlers ripped apart strong KKR batting lineup. It was middle-order that rescued Knight Riders from 59 for 4 to 155 on the scoreboard. KKR’s inning was about two cameos – Surya Kumar Yadav’s 30 in 16 balls and de Grandhomme’s 36 in 19 balls. Manish Pandey top scored with 37 off 32 balls. Jaydev Unadkat was super impressive with 28 for 2 bowling figure.

Chasing a modest total of 155, Pune lost wickets at regular intervals but Tripathi continued his form this season. He smashed 52-ball 93 – hitting 78 runs in boundaries (7 sixes and 9 fours), brought up the fastest fifty for Pune franchise in IPL. He was dismissed on 93, left Pune with only six to get off eight balls. He was later adjudged with Man of the Match award.
