Dazzling Pune Supergiant has handed Sunrisers Hyderabad, defending Champion first defeat at their home this season. Pune beat the host by 12 runs in a dramatic finish. Pune’s victory was all about Ben Stokes and Jaydev Unadkat death bowling as they snatch a win from the mouth of Hyderabad. Jaydev also picked up a hat-trick in the last over and picked up five for 30, his best in IPL ever.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pune’s inning was all about middle-order batsmen lead by Smith’s 34 runs, Dhoni’s 31 off 21 balls and Ben Stokes added 39 off 25 balls. Smith and Ben Stokes added 60 runs for the third wicket before Dhoni rescued the team with a cameo. First time this season, the purple cap holder, Bhubaneshwar Kumar went wicketless and Kaul impressed with a 4 for 29 as Pune put 148 on the scoreboard.
Sunrisers Hyderabad was put to back-seat when Ben Stokes removed Dhawan and Williamson in the fifth over of the match. Ben Stokes was yet again the difference maker as he broke the 54-run stand between Yuvraj and Warner, dismissing him in the 13th over and ultimately it was turning point of the match as no other batsman except Yuvraj Singh was able to get past double digit score. Sunrisers required 13 off the last over but the Saurashtra bowler bowled a triple-wicket maiden and also picked up three wickets to give Pune much needed two points.
With this win, RPS move to the second position in point table and Sunrisers move down to fourth with 13 points. Both teams still have two matches to play and anything can happen.
