Playing at home, RCB captain, Virat Kohli opted to bowl first as RPS openers reached 50 runs in 4.6 overs as the ball came onto the bat nicely in starting overs and for the first time this season, they didn’t lose a wicket in the mandatory Powerplay.
Middle-over and T20 specialists, MS Dhoni and RPS captain, Steven Smith struggled to rotate strike and failed once again to convert a good start into a big score as both were dismissed in consecutive balls. Pune went from 127 for 2 to 130 for 7. It was Manoj Tiwary with a sparkling cameo propelled them to put 161 on the scoreboard. He smashed six boundaries in the last two overs of the inning at a strike rate of 245.45.
In reply to RPS 161 runs, RCB lost Mandeep Singh for a duck in the first over. For the first time in this tournament, Steven Smith & Co performed exceptionally well as a bowling unit. Christian, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur and Ben Stokes mixed slower balls very well. None of the RCB batsmen posted a big score as they lost the match 27 runs in front of their home crowd.
Stokes was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3 wickets for 18 runs in four overs. He was later adjudged with Man of the Match award. This was the second win for RPS and RCB has now lost 4 out of 5 matches.
