Mumbai Indians have successfully defended a score of 142 as they defeated Delhi Daredevils in the 25th match of Vivo Indian Premier League 2017. Played at Wankhede Stadium, Mitchell McClenaghan picked up three wickets in an intense opening spell to set up Mumbai Indian’s sixth successive win this season. He was later adjudged Man of the Match. They have only lost their first match against Rising Pune Supergiants.
Delhi Daredevils won the toss and just like every other team, they opted to bowl first. Having restricted Mumbai to a score of 142 generally, means a decent bowling effort but who knows pitch has some other story to say. In the chase, just like Mumbai, Delhi Daredevils batsmen failed. For Mumbai, Jos Buttler added 28 off 18 balls, Kieron Pollard scored 26 off 29 balls and Hardik Pandya added 24 of 23 balls.
They were reduced to 24 for 6 as all the top 6 batsmen were dismissed for a single digit score. It looks liked that they might be all-out within 10 overs but debutant Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris fought really hard to bring the contest till the last over of the match. They both added 91 runs for the seventh wicket but that wasn’t enough for Delhi to chase the target and at the end, they lost the match by 14 runs.
Chris Morris brought up his half century and remained not out on 52 off 41 balls and Rabada made 44 runs in 39 balls. Once Rabada was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah, Delhi lost the plot once again.
While Mumbai Indians are well on course to advanced to next level of the league, Zaheer Khan & his team needs to get the things right quickly or else they will be thrown out of the tournament.
