Mumbai Indians (MI) has yet again chase down a strong total this IPL season as they win by five wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 38th league match. Star-studded, RCB never looked in content to win the match as architect Rohit Sharma yet again scored a match-winning half-century to take MI home with one ball remaining.
Played at Wankhede Stadium, Virat Kohli, RCB’s captain won the toss and elected to bat first. Mandeep Singh and Virat Kohli gave the team a decent start as their team scored 52 in the mandatory powerplay overs. Mandeep was caught off Karn Sharma on 17 off 13 balls and soon after Virat Kohli departed. AB de Villiers once again guided their team in the middle overs and a little cameo of 35 off 23 balls by Pawan Negi helped their team to put 162 on the scoreboard after 20 overs. AB de Villiers remained the top-scored with 43 off 27 balls. For Mumbai, Mitchell McClenaghan took 3 for 34 and Krunal Pandya bowled decently to take two wickets.
In the chase of 163, Mumbai lost Parthiv Patel first ball of the inning as he was outdone by Aniket Choudhary. Nitish Rana, Jos Buttler kept the things going as they added 61 for the second wicket before both were dismissed by Pawan Negi in the successive overs. It was Captain Rohit Sharma who anchored the chase with 56 off 37 balls as Mumbai finished with a ball to spare. It was a fine all-round show by Pawan Negi but it was Rohit Sharma who received Man of the Match during the presentation ceremony.
With this win, Mumbai Indian’s claims top spot in the points table while RCB with five points is in seventh place. They are officially out of the league.
