Each team will play 10 matches in the league stage, taking on each opposition twice, one at their home venue and other at the opposition's ground. The teams haven't been finalized yet. For the inaugural edition Kumara Sangakkara, Tilakratne Dilshan, Rangana Herath, Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews are expected to play in order to promote the league.

LPL 1 edition will have 6 teams.

LPL 2018 Schedule

Earlier, Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) was scheduled to held in 2011 but it was postponed and until 2017 only two seasons were possible.

SLC hopes to find sponsors and curb organizational problems, which were the main cause of why the league was called off in 2013 and 2014.

Sri Lanka Cricket experts hope that SLPL could help them identify local talents which will help them come out of deep crisis issue.
