Kolkatta Knight Riders (KKR) has defeated Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 4 wickets in the 18th match of Vivo Indian Premier League 2017. KKR has yet again chase down a big total this season as they reclaim top spot in the point table this season with 4 wins in 5 matches.
After winning the toss, Delhi’s Captain, Zaheer Khan opted to bat first in front of their home crowd. They were off to a flying start as both openers added 53 runs in the mandatory Powerplay overs. They struggled in the middle overs as visiting team pulled back things quickly. Sunil Narine bowled an economical spell conceding only 20 runs and picking a wicket of Angelo Mathews, but pick of the bowlers was Nathan Coulter-Nile as he picked 3 wickets for 22 runs. A 16 ball 38 runs cameo from Rishabh Pant helped Delhi to post 168 runs on the scoreboard.
While chasing, Kolkatta Knight Riders lost both the openers cheaply and they were reduced to 21 for 3. Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan steered the inning as they added 110 runs for the fifth wicket. It was the test of both nerves and skill as the team won with one ball to spare. Yusuf Pathan scored 59 runs in 39 balls and Manish Pandey remained not out on 69 off 49 balls with three sixes. Karun Nair, Delhi’s batsman inning of 21 runs in 27 balls remains questionable as he slow-down things for them.
Nathan Coulter-Nile was rewarded with Man of the Match award at the match conclusion as KKR won by 4 wickets.
KKR is one of the most balanced team this season. A couple of days back, they successfully defended 172 runs to trouble defending Champion Sunrisers Hyderabad.
