Jemimah Rodrigues is one among those players who has made to headlines in India Cricket so early. The 17-year-old all-rounder from Bandra, Mumbai has become the youngest Indian Women to Score T20I cricket half-century.
Jemimah Rodrigues made her ODI debuted against Australia Women at Vadodara on March 12 this year and T20I debut against South Africa Women last month with an impressive 37 on T20I debut resulting in a win for India.
She is now the youngest Indian Women to hit a T20I half-century when she achieved the feat against Australia on March 26 in her home ground. By achieving that feat in just 41 balls, she is the second youngest women’s T20I half-centurion. On her way to a half-century, she clobbered eight fours when rest of Indian team struggled to keep up against might Australia team. Soon after scoring her 50, she was dismissed.
That half-century from Rodrigues wasn’t enough for her team as India Women lost the game by 36 runs and suffered a third straight loss in T20 Tri Series being held between India, England, and Australia.
In 2013 at Vadodara, She became the second girl in U-19 limited-overs cricket to bring up a double-century, after Smriti Mandhana.
Australia captain Meg Lanning is all praise for her and says: “She brings a fearless look to Women’s cricket. She’s an exciting talent. She comes out and plays without fear, and we know when we’re bowling to her, we know we have to get it right or we’ll be going the journey.”
Jemimah Rodrigues has bright future both for herself and Indian Women Cricket. She is already been taunted as the next big name in Cricket.
