The 35th league match of Vivo IPL 2017 ended in a dramatic finish as the match was tied match. Mumbai Indians won in the Super Over eliminator, thanks to impressive bowling by Jasprit Bumrah.
Played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium at Rajkot, Suresh Raina won the toss and surprised everyone as he opted to bat first with Irfan Pathan included in the playing XI, getting his sixth IPL team.
For the first time this season, Gujarat struggled to get a good start. Opening the inning, young Ishan Kishan top scored with 48 off 35 balls and no other batsman crossed a score of 30. At the end of inning, Gujarat had 153 on the scoreboard.
Much like Gujarat, their whole inning was about just one batsman – Parthiv Patel who scored 70 off 44 balls.
It was only when Faulkner’s two wickets in the 14th over that helped home team to bounce back. Thanks to magnificiant fielding performance, the match was tied in the end as Mumbai were all out for 153.
For Gujarat, Basil Thampi and James Faulkner were impressive with bowling figure of 4 for 29 and 2 for 34. Soni was economical with 1 wicket for 16 runs in four overs.
In the end it was a tight match as Basil Thampi’s 19th over produced three wickets as his team refuse to go away easily.
Mumbai team in Super Over eliminator was all out for 11. For them in Super Over, Jasprit Bumrah overcame a bad bowling start to conceed just 6 runs off it, even though the first ball was a no-ball.
Krunal Pandya was adjudged with Man of the Match award for his all round show of 3 for 14 and then crucial 29 off 20 balls in the thrilling second inning.
