Struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Gujarat Lions in the 31st match of Vivo Indian Premier League 2017 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. It was yet another crushing win this season as Gujarat Lions won by 7 wickets with 37 balls to spare, a very important win with good Net Run Rate. With this win, Gujarat Lions (GL) drag themselves off the foot of the points table.
Andrew Tye took 3 for 12 which sparked the RCB collapse and Aaron Finch 22-ball 50, made things easy for Gujarat Lions team. He was once again declared Man of the Match for such an impressive bowling performance. Gujarat’s captain Suresh Raina won the toss and put Bangalore to bat first in front of their home crowd. It was yet again at batting failure as none of the top order batsmen carried on to score a big score.
For the first time in the tournament, Gujarat Lions bowling was at par, thanks to the inclusion of James Faulkner who was economical with 1 for 15 in three overs. Ravindra Jadeja also took two key wickets as RCB were all out for 134.
134 in any T20 game is easy to chase but Samuel Badree raised RCB hopes as he struck early to dismiss Gujarat Lions’s openers, Ishan Kishan and Brendon McCullum. Then Finch muscled all the RCB’s bowlers to score 22-ball 50, fastest for Lions in IPL. At halftime, Lions were on 95 for 2. At the end, Suresh Raina remained until the end to give his team a much-needed win.
