Gujarat Lions(GL) has finally ended up their losing streak as they went on to win their first game of the IPL-10(Indian Premier League) season as debutant Andrew Tye took 5 for 17 in his spell of four overs. Tye’s effort included a hat-trick and to record, it’s the best bowling figure by an IPL debutant. It was the 13th match of the season played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
After winning the toss, Gujarat Lions captain, Suresh Raina opted to bowl first but his plans once again side-kicked as a dull bowling attack from Praveen Kumar leaked away 64 runs in the powerplay overs. Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) was once again off to a flying start as they reached 100 runs in 10.5 overs. RPS went on to make a score of 181 after 20 overs as SPD Smith top-scored with 43 runs in 28 balls before he was dismissed by Dwayne Smith in the tenth over of the inning. Andrew Tye’s fast bowling derailed RPS progress as they were atleast 20 runs short as wicket kept on tumbling. He picked up a hat-trick in the 20th over of the inning and was later adjourned with Man of the Man award.
In reply to the target of 172 runs, Gujarat Lions were off to a blazing start as their Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum added 94 runs for the first wicket in 9 overs. Then Suresh Raina’s 35 off 22 balls and Aaron Finch’s 33 of 19 balls guided Gujarat Lion to open their account this season as the team won by 7 wickets with 12 balls to spare.
