Veteran Saira Banu & Jackie Shroff Honoured with prestigious Raj Kapoor Award

The legendary actress Saira Banu and the actor Jackie Shroff are elected by the Maharashtra government for receiving the prestigious Raj Kapoor lifetime achievement and Raj Kapoor special contribution yearly awards.

Mr.Vinod Tawde, the Cultural Affairs Minister of Maharashtra announced yesterday at Mumbai the names from the Bollywood industry to receive the awards. The lifetime achievement award for both of them carries a citation along with a cash reward of Rs.500,000 each and the special contribution award carries a citation with cash of Rs.300,000 each.

As per Tawde, the awards are instituted by the state government and will be presented at the forthcoming 54th Maharashtra State Marathi Film Festival. Tawde also tweeted “congratulations to veteran actress Saira Banu on being selected for the award celebrating and to Jackie Shroff for his contributions to Indian Cinema”.

The actress Saira Banu of 72 years has started her career when she was 16, in 1961 with the super hit movie “Junglee”. Her co-star was legendary actor Shammi Kapoor and she also bagged the nomination for the Filmfare Awards for the movie. Though Shammi Ji was the male lead, but still people recognised Saira Ji and appreciated her work.

Jackie Shroff in 60, resided in South Mumbai where he was famous as the local toughie by his real name Jaikishan K. Shroff until he got a break in Subhash Ghai’s blockbuster movie “Hero”. From that movie, he got his popular name Jackie and is still continuing with the name.
