Railways Planning to Operate a 200 Kmph Delhi-Chandigarh Train

After the successful launching of 160 Kmph train service on the route from Delhi to Agra, now Indian railways is planning to operate and scale the speed up to 200 Kmph on the Delhi-Chandigarh route with the help of French experts so that they can reduce the time to travel.

The corridor of Delhi-Chandigarh with 245 km in length is one of the busiest corridors in northern India. This route is selected slated by the railways to witness the high-speed project for running the train at the speed of max 200 kmph.

Apart from that railway has selected some high priority corridors of total length 6400 km including Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Agra route for the upgrade to run the semi-high speed train services.

Along with this thing, some other routes that have been identified by the railway to operate the train services at the speed of 160/200 Kmph are Delhi-Kanpur, Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Nagpur-Secunderabad, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennai, and Chennai-Hyderabad.

The French railways, SNCF will submit their final execution strategies & implementation model along with the detailed cost for the semi-high speed project that involves up-gradation of the 245 km long Delhi-Chandigarh route. The final reports are expected to be submitted by the French railways by the end of this October according to the senior railway officials.

Here, the aim of the railways is to reduce the time by a considerable amount and French railways has been asked by the Indian railways to prepare the draft for it.

This project can be estimated to cost around 10,000 crores at 46 crores per kilometer for the semi-high speed project. This cost involves rolling the stock, tracks and signal up-gradation on Delhi-Chandigarh route.
