A new software update definitely brings a smile on the owner’s face but sadly Xiaomi phones in terms of software updates how disappointed consumers especially outside China. It’s sad to see a company achieving tremendous success and not yet providing a software update to most of the devices.
Looks like Xiaomi has heard what has been requested most by the users. A Chinese website states ITHome that 14 Xiaomi devices will be getting the Android Nougat update any time now.
All the Xiaomi devices run on custom MIUI skin which is a highly customized user interface. It’s pretty much similar to Samsung’s TouchWiz. Infact, with the recent TouchWiz improvements, MIUI turns out to be worst UI but at the same time, it has some feature often found on any phones.
If you check out the Xiaomi’s current inventory, only Mi 6 and Mi Max 2 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and majority of their devices are still on Marshmallow which is two year’s old Android version.
List of the devices expected to receive an update to Android 7.0 Nougat are Xiaomi Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi Note, Mi Max, Mi 5, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5, Redmi Note 4, Mi Max 2, Mi 5C, Mi Note 2 and Mi Mix.
The following device will be directly updated to Android 7.1 are Redmi 4X, Mi 5C, Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi Max 2.
The Nougat update as of 4 July 2017 is live for last year launched flagship Xiaomi Mi 5. and currently the testing for Mi 5C, Redmi 4/4X with 7.1.1 update. Similarly Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus are undergoing testing to run Android 7.0 Nougat.
Moving on from Android Marshmallow the 7.0 and 7.1 are the latest version of Android features decent improvements.
