Dharmendra Pradhan, Oil and Petroleum minister, said that they are planning to offer home delivery of petrol and diesel at your place, soon, only on pre-booking. The news broke out like a fire into the public, when the tweet came from the social site. It's like a dream come true for the people as the tweet says "Options being explored where petrol products may be door delivered to consumers on pre-booking".
Another tweet from the petroleum ministry said: "This would help consumers avoid spending excessive time and long queues at fuel stations." Around 3.25 crore people come to the fuel stations on daily basis as per the news and a number of transactions are about Rs. 2,500 Crore annually.
Except for LPG products, for all other petroleum goods, consumers have to go to the retail outlets for purchase. At present, there is the provision of home delivery for LPG only by the government. The plan has struck into the ministry when the petrol pump owners have threatened of shutting down the fuel stations on Sundays. This is something that has never happened.
This decision is not in favour of consumers, the government has admitted, therefore to avoid such situation, the action plan is being worked on by the petroleum ministry. This move is to improve consumer service and increase digital transactions, something which is the main agenda behind it. Even though after money demonetization, consumers are happy to pay in cash at petrol pumps. Mr. Pradhan said that idea is to have "mini petrol pumps" on wheels.
From 1st May, the introduction of the plan of price revision of petrol and diesel in five cities will be executed in India because it is the third biggest oil consumer in the world. Gradually the plan will be rolled out nationwide.
