Mumbai Airport customs seized 2.355 kilos of gold and the unnamed person has been taken into custody by the Airport staffs and the case is registered against unanimous persons for further investigation. During the investigation of the passengers, the customs department found gold and seized them on spot.
A similar case was registered on 17th April 2017, at Mumbai Airport when 2 Sri Lankans flew to Mumbai and tried to smuggle gold of worth ₹87.5 lakhs. The Air Intelligence Unit smelled the smugglers and arrested at the Airport. The customs officials said that “they are trying to trace the handlers”.
Mostly the gold smuggling is done from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai in kilos which are brought from Saudi, Sri Lanka or Singapore. In September five gold smuggling instances were registered which was worth ₹1.109 Crore. In the first case, the Customs intercepted the smuggler from Bangkok. During the seizure 100 grams of 5 gold bars of worth Rs. 12.48 lakhs was confiscated and the culprit was arrested.
The recent gold seized is in form of different pieces of jewelry and all the pictures are flashed by the local newspaper and on social media platform like twitter to update the public.

The customs officials have permitted the news photographers to click every image of the gold seized at the Mumbai Airport on 18th April, which is in form of gold rings, chains, gold bars of an approx weight of 100 gms and solid bracelets.
