Foods Co. Has Stopped Accepting Visa Credit Cards, Here’s Why

On August 14th Foods Co. Supermarket’s 21 stores and 5 fuel stops in Central and Northern California will stop accepting Visa Credit Cards as a form of payment. This move will enable the company to cut corners on the high costs associated with credit card companies interchange rates and network fees and therefore provide customers with better prices in terms of offers and discounts on everyday items.  

Customers will be able to shop regularly with other digital payment methods like Debit Cards, SNAP and MasterCard, American Express, and Discover Credit Cards.  

The banners president Bryan Kaltenbach said “On examining customer choices and data we found out that customers rely on Foods Co. as their supermarket of choice due to our low prices, at Foods Co., we are committed to saving our customers money. Although it may be hard on some customers, today’s decision will help Foods Co. continue to deliver great value to our customers with low prices, fresh products and friendly service which is our absolute priority.”

He added, “We understand this will be an abrupt change for some customers, but we believe this change will benefit all our customers by allowing our Foods Co stores to continue to offer the things that matter more than payment methods like Fresh produce, reliable service, and the lowest prices.”

Stores that are discontinuing Visa Credit Card payments are located in San Francisco, Santa Maria, Soledad and Tulare, Bakersfield, Fresno, Hanford, Lompoc, Oakland, Pittsburg, Richmond, Sacramento and Salinas.

In the light of this new decision, a visa spokesperson commented “Visa is extremely disappointed at Kroger’s decision to discontinue Visa credit cards at its Foods Co. stores. When consumer choice is restricted, nobody benefits. We strive to protect the interests of our cardholders to ensure they can use their Visa credit cards whenever and wherever they shop. Visa has an amicable relationship with Kroger and remains committed to working with them to reach a reasonable solution.”
