Gundlupet, Karnataka: It seems that the controversies surrounding the Congress parties are continuing, because the women wing President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, Laxmi Hebbalkar was caught on camera while distributing bribe among the voters of Allur Kere village. This village is a part of Gundlupet constituency where the by-elections are declared. Giving bribe to the voters before any election is an offense and the Election Commission of India(ECI) ensures that there are no such incidents before any election.
The video clearly shows that Laxmi Hebbalkar is distributing sarees and cash to the volunteers to be circulated among the villagers. It seems that along with the volunteers, some voters were also present when Laxmi Hebbalkar distributed the cash and sarees. The by-polls are going to be held on 9th April, and it seems that the Congress does not want to retain their seat in this constituency. Due to the untimely death of the Congress MLA from this constituency, the by-polls are declared in Gundlupet, and Congress intends to retain this constituency.
Laxmi Hebbalkar is not new to such controversies because her name has been involved in two controversies in near past. A raid on her residence by the Income Tax (IT) department has recovered a significant amount of cash disproportionate to her income. The second controversy is regarding the transport of sand during the banned hours. In the said case, Laxmi Hebbalkar tried to pressurize Udappa Kattikar, the Police sub-inspector.
It’s being said that the Bharatiya Janta Party(BJP) will be initiating an official complaint to the Election Commission on the basis of this video.
