Google to announce Android Q update at Google I/O 2019

After Android P update, Android Q will be the next version of Android. Check Android Q update release date, features to expect and other things.

The Android Oreo update is now rolling out to a number of devices including the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus which was interrupted a couple of days back. The Android Oreo phones list is almost finalized but the fact remains the same as the Android upgrades/update are still slow in adoption.

Android Oreo is more than nine months old and still, just 1.1% devices run on it (source: Android developers). That stats still hasn’t improved.

Android Q update

The Google is verge on announcing the next Android version, so-called the Android 9.0 P version and the first developer preview of it was released just a couple of days back. Google I/O 2018 is scheduled to be held on 8 May to 10 May and possibly this could be the date that Android P will get a name.

As a matter of fact, every year Google announces a new Android version and it’s happening since 4.1 Jelly Bean announcement in 2012.

This year at Google I/O, Android 9.0 version is expected and in the similar fashion Android Q aka Android 10 will be announced at Google I/0 2019. However, the development of Android Q version will begin early and there might be two to three developer preview version before it’s official.

Android Q Name

Coming to the Android Q name, Google has always adopted a system of naming the Android version by famous desserts in an alphabetical manner. For example, take Android 5.0 is known as Lollipop and so Android 7.0 is Nougat.

The next Android version could take up the following names as suggested:

  • Android Quark
  • Android Quail
  • Android Quahog
  • Android Quince
  • Android Queso
  • Android Quinine
  • Android Quaker Oats
