After Reliance JioPhone announcement, a number of telecom operators in India have planned to counter Reliance Jio’s movement. Already Reliance Jio has troubled Airtel, Idea, Vodafone with it’s cheap and affordable 4G Services and will continue to do so because they have planned to bring the 4G services on to a featured phone, costing just Rs 1500.
To counter JioPhone, Idea has already announced that they are working on a Idea 4G featured phone. Intex also announced Turbo+, a 4G phone that runs on KaiOS. Now Bharti Airtel has planned for similar move to launch a Rs 2500 4G smartphone.
Reports claims that Bharti Airtel is in talks with Karbonn and Lava to manufacture the Airtel JioPhone alternative as soon as possible.
Bharti Airtel is still the largest telecom operator in India in terms of subscribers and they doesn’t want to lose that. For their Airtel 4G smartphone, the company is in talks with few handset makers, according to a report in The Economic Times. The possible date of launch is drilled down to Diwali this year.
Just like JioPhone, Airtel 4G featured phone will continue to offer bundled voice calls and 4G data packs, although it will not be free (unlimited) like the Jio 4G.
The rumored Airtel smartphone with 4G will also users to download apps from Play Store but no other specifications of the devices were revealed.
Ever Since Reliance Jio arrival last year, Airtel continues to lose revenue. The company saw a 72 per cent drop in quarterly profit reported in May 2017. Their decreasing revenue is attributed to Reliance Jio’s arrival last year. The company is looking forward to reach 200 million subscribers after it embarked to 100 million subscribers in just 170 days of it’s 4G launch.
