Mary Meeker Report 2017 says India an Intriguing Market for Internet

What is so crucial to be understood in today’s world is none other than ‘Internet’. Why is this particular ‘concept’ given such importance, wherein, every second person in the world feels it is as important as what we do in our day to day lifestyle. The reason for the development in this field as per the Mary Meeker report 2017 (American venture capitalist and former Wall Street securities analyst), clarifies so many doubts about a person’s indulgence in this technology of advancement among the ‘Human Race’.

Last Wednesday, Mary made it clear in the report as to what were the reasons for the demand and places where it was more in demand. She also specified that India could be considered one of the “more fascinating markets for the Internet on the planet”.

Indian Internet Penetration

The United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution that Internet access is a basic human right (2016). It has been observed that only 27% of Indians have access to the Internet.

Ms.Meeker specifies in her report that India, even though currently has low penetration in this field, is surely growing at a fast pace. The example of the network company Reliance with it introducing ‘Jio’ with free data couple of months back is the proof.

The data rates have considerably reduced (after the advent of ‘Jio‘ mobile network in the past few months) which in turn has constrained the competitors in the field to cut their prices down. As a result, the annual average data rates are at 1.3% of the annual GDP/Capita which is below the standard that was set at 2% in the past in India.

Immense opportunities are found in the Indian market towards the mass mobile data and hence, network companies are going forward with various offers in this perspective to attract customers.

It is believed that the consumption of Wireless Internet has grown to nine times more from the rate that was found last year. China, of course, has played a huge role in sourcing the devices to hold the data thus desired.

We have seen the celebrities posting pictures for the mobiles that are manufactured in China. These China-manufactured mobiles find their best price in the India market.

Long way to go is what the report of Ms. Meeker suggests when it comes to at least, the Internet concept. Again the stats reveal that 80% of the Internet usage is found to be on mobiles, which is an advantage for these foreign mobile companies to invest their produce in the Indian market.
