Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj the greatest ruler of Maharashtra is regarded as an iconic personality not only in Maharashtra state but also all over the country. The Shivaji Jayanti 2018 is celebrated on the day of 19 February.

Shivaji Jayanti is also celebrated in Karnataka and an official statewide holiday is declared in Maharashtra on this date.

Shivaji was born on February 19, 1630, in Shivneri Fort. Shivaji was named so after the local Goddess Shivai to whom his mother Jijabai prayed for a son. He was known for his military and civil administration.

Declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur became the start of the Maratha Empire. Toma fort was captured by Shivaji when he was 16 and Raigad and Kondana forts were captured when he was his age 17.

The military knowledge of Shivaji was received by him from commanders like Gomaji Naik and Baji Pasalkar. The emergence of Indian independence movement increased his importance.

It is also viewed that Shivaji Jayanthi is celebrated twice/thrice in a year.There are two kinds of people in Maharashtra, One belief in Hindu Calendar & other in English Calendar.

Shivaji’s birthday is celebrated on a majestic scale in Maharashtra. Shivaji was successful in setting up a kingdom by defeating the alien powers.

The battle between the Marathas and the Mughals came to be known as the Maratha war of Independence where the Marathas gained success in regaining the control of the fort. He established the navy and was called the ‘Father of Indian Navy’ for his strategic plans.

As we know his mother Jijabai influenced him with the holy books and Indian epics of Mahabharata, Ramayana. Shivaji was formally crowned as a Chhatrapati in 1674 at Raigad fort and henceforth came to be known as Chhatrapati Shivaji.

The 210-meter statue in Mumbai is the surpassing the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

Shivaji has continued to inspire warriors who followed his lineage and the celebration of his birthday is the proof for the same.

Shiv Jayanti is celebrated on a large scale in Maharashtra. The politicians visit the Shivneri fort to honor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, processions and poojas are performed in memory of Shivaji Maharaj and decorate his idols with garlands.
