In a recent announcement, Instacart’s senior operations manager, Sapna Mitchell said “Over the past year, we’ve seen incredible demand in the Grand Rapids area. Initiating our services in Grand Rapids gives us a chance to expand service in Michigan. We’re also thrilled to build a world-class shopper community, where we can provide flexible income-earning opportunities for our shoppers, who ultimately deliver this amazing service to the community.” The participating retailers include Family Fare, Fresh Thyme, Costco, Petco, and Save-a-lot. This expansion is expected to create more than 100 jobs in West Michigan.
Instacart clears the air on how this works. Customers can go online and access the Instacart website or simply download the Instacart app on their smartphones, select a store near their current location, add items to their cart, select a delivery timeframe depending on their urgency and check out. An Instacart shopper notes the order on their smartphone, uses the app to guide them through the order and delivers to the customer’s doorstep within the stipulated time frame.
Orders that exceed $35 come with a delivery fee of $5.99. If customers want to avoid a delivery fee and receive unlimited and free same-day delivery on orders exceeding $35, they need to sign up for an Instacart Express Membership. Enrolling in the membership grants various rewards and offers on daily basis. After the completion of the free trial, Instacart Express membership comes at just $14.99 a month or $149 a year.
If you’re a first time user and live in Grand Rapids, you can use the code ‘HIGRANDRAPIDS’ at checkout to receive free first-time delivery and a $20 discount on orders exceeding $35 or more. Hurry, as this offers expires on 2nd October 2018.
