India’s 1st Integrated Ticketing Platform in Mumbai under trails

Integrated Ticketing Platform

Integrated Ticketing Platform, is a new concept of the Indian Railways which is in itself a complete different one. Mumbai has been chosen to be the 1st Indian city to test and run integrated ticketing platform. Under this concept only one ticket is enough for anyone to travel in a train, metro, bus, auto or a taxi.

The project will be managed by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the authority will integrate all public transports: BEST buses, local trains, metros, black-and-yellow taxis and auto rickshaws within this system. It is regarded to be a unique step towards the betterment of the transport experience through the varied transport sectors available to the public. Moreover, there would be less hassle as the public has different choices to adopt, rather than depending on any one public transport based on the ticket possessed.

Officials from Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) and Central and Western Railway officials are including different strategies, in order to make it a success in the city. It is a pride factor for the ‘Mumbaiwalas’ as the one of its kind of the revolutionary type of concept related the public transport is being introduced in their city.

The Brihamumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), which spearheads bus services in Mumbai and Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), which manages the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro have accepted to assist the authorities in order to implement the integrated system.

The chairman and MD, MRVC Mr.Prabhat Sahai, said “MRVC will present the railways’ perspective to the MMRDA, which is the primary organisation for the integrated ticketing system.”

There are two stages of operating the new said concept. The first one being – A special software will be integrated with the existing ticketing system at railway stations and metro. The second stage would involve installation of Special entry and exit gates for making the integrated system of ticketing.

As per the anonymous source of MMRDA, the tender for executing single ticketing platform would be sent on board in October. Based on the results, the same would be implemented pan-India.
