India win big against Pakistan to top Points Table at Champions Trophy 2017


India has yet again defeated arch-rival Pakistan in a major ICC events to shut off outside world of team’s alleged rift with the coach Anil Kumble. Team India dodge the rain and crush Pakistan by 124 runs (D/L method) in insipid Champions Trophy 2017 opener.

India vs Pakistan tie on June 4 in the league match of Champions Trophy 2017 recorded highest ever crowd at Edgbaston Cricket Ground with more than 24,000 attendees. The match started with both the team observing a minute of silence in respect of victims of last night’s terrorist attack in London.

Having won the toss, Sarfraz Khan, the Pakistan skipper decided to bowl and he has always been a bow-first captain. Indian team left out Shami and Ashwin and opted for four fast bowlers and one spinner.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a decent start as they yet again put up 136 runs for the first wicket partnership. It helped middle order batsmen to score quickly as India score 319 in 48 overs in a rain intervened match. For India, Rohit Sharma shined with 91 on his return game since October 2016. Shikhar Dhawan added 68 off 65 balls and Virat Kohli remained 81 not out but Yuvraj Singh who stole the limelight as he notched 53 runs in 32 balls and later he was adjudged Man of the Match.

In chase of 324 in 48 overs, Pakistan opener gave them a decent start adding 47 runs for the first wicket but since then they kept on losing wickets regular intervals. It was a disciplined bowling effort from Team India as they bowled out the opposition for 164 and register a comfortable win.

With this win over Pakistan, India now tops the Group B points table with an impressive run rate of +3.024. The ‘Men in Blue’ now faces Sri Lanka at The Oval on June 8 and then takes on South Africa on June 11 at The Oval.
