Star Wars Episode 9; J.J. Abrams replaces Director Colin Trevorrow

Star Wars Episode 9

Star Wars Episode 9, a new beginning in the set of the fiction-series based movies, the franchise that started the said film series, back in 1977 (later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope in 1981) is another sequel which is running. Now we hear the news that director Colin Trevorrow has been fired and replaced by JJ Abrams.

What is Star Wars

Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise, centered on a film series created by George Lucas. It depicts the adventures of various characters “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”.

Lucas is also best known as the creator of ‘Indiana Jones’. The sequels following this particular series include, The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of Jedi (1983).  A prequel trilogy was released between 1999 and 2005, which received mixed reactions from both critics and fans.

All seven films were nominated for Academy Awards, (with wins going to the first two films) and have been commercial successes, with a combined box office revenue of over US$7.5billion, making Star Wars the third highest-grossing film series.

The series covered the television, books, Computer and Video Games, theme park attractions, and comic books. Star Wars also holds a ‘Guinness World Records‘ title for the “Most successful film merchandising franchise”. In 2015, the total value of the Star Wars franchise was estimated at US$42 billion, making Star Wars the second-highest grossing media franchise of all time.

The Force Awakens slipped from a summer 2015 release to December, and The Last Jedi was originally announced for May 2017 before also settling on a winter premiere. So the delay for Episode 9 hardly comes as a surprise.

A new chapter in the Star Wars story with 2015’s was begun by JJ Abrams. However, it is predicted that a new sequel trilogy will end in 2019 with Abrams’s Episode 9

Star Wars Episode 9 Release Date

It has been seen that the Episode 9 was previously scheduled for May 24, 2019  in the US, but is been now expected to get back to Star Wars‘ traditional Christmas release window. Also, the UK date is yet to be announced but is likely to be the same day, if not slightly earlier.

The most important part, – the filming, is said to start from January 18.

Although the start cast secret is not let out, it is speculated and may be firmly believed that the cast would include, Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) hopefully.

Star Wars Episode 9 Premier

The new director JJ Abrams can get more time to work on the final installment in this new trilogy as Episode 9 is believed to premier On December 20 2019.

The brother of Carrie Fisher said late Star Wars legend would somehow return as General Leia – possibly using Rogue One‘s unsettling CGI reconstruction technology, though the same was denied by Kathleen Kennedy (Lucasfilm president).

Star Wars Episode 9 Script

Abrams and Chris Terrio (Batman v Superman fame) seem to be writing the film. Following Fisher’s death, which is a tragedy and an important contribution missing for the making of the prequel, Treverrow (American film director and screenwriter) promised that Leia “will be handled with love and respect, and all of the soul that Carrie Fisher deserves”, (a very sentimental touch it is). We also hope that it goes equally for Abrams.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has said that the films could continue into the 2030s. Expressing his view at USC, and answering a question, he said: “We’ve got a creative team actually thinking about what could be another decade and a half of Star Wars stories.” Further reiterating, he mentioned, “It’s kind of mind-blowing spending an afternoon with a creative team thinking about that.”

The spin-offs will be on their way to make their trend as a recognized and most demanded part, as there has come a time where people want to see more narrative and creative ‘stuff’. The team hence knows the value of time spent on these extraordinary aspects of movies clan in Hollywood ‘picture’.
