Ranveer Singh, the Bajirao of Bollywood has joined hands with Indian film director and screenwriter Zoya Akhtar. The movie is titled, ‘Gully Boys‘, is based on the life of two Bombay street rappers Naezy and Divine.

Ranveer is expected to be paired with Alia Bhatt, though this is not the first time both will be seen sharing the screen. Ranveer Alia has worked on a series of ads for MakeMyTrip. Both of them have a huge fan following and are looking forward to seeing the pair yet again.

Speaking about the storyline of the movie, Zoya said: “I have been inspired by the real life street rappers. I watched these kids on Internet and they are just mind-blowing. They are real life hero’s and their talent can blow any one’s mind. Everyone is so consumed with watching films that no one notices the talent on the streets.”

A source close to regime says the reason behind the director thinks Ranveer and Alia are perfect choices for this movie is “Alia and Ranveer are both off screen singers. This film requires both of them to play street singers. Ranveer will play the role of Naezy(Naved Sheikh) who at 13 was transformed by Seal Paul ‘Temperature’ when he first heard it by a Dj in Kurla Chawl. He went to the cyber cafe the next day, printed out the lyrics and memorized them. In 2014 as a 22-year-old, Nazey released ‘Aafat’ a DIY video which was shot on the Zero budget on iPad. The video got 4.7 lakh views on YouTube. Divine who is known for his viral video ‘Jungli Sher’ made a history as the first Indian freestyle rapper in Hindi. Divine and Naezy collaborated in 2015 and gave an anthem to Mumbai, ‘Mere Gully Mein’.

The ‘Highway’ fame Alia is now busy shooting for Mahesh Bhatt next Sadak 2, the actress is likely expected to play Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt’s daughter in the movie. Whereas Singh is shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ starring Deepika Padukone, Aditi Rao Hydari. Zoya is waiting for both the actors to wrap up their shooting as soon as possible and work up for her next project ‘Gully Boys’.
