A workshop was held for the teachers at IIT Delhi last week where Human Resource Development Minister Mr. Prakash Javadekar addressed the crowd on Sunday. The HRD minister said that the government would be facilitating approximately 2000 online courses within a year. The online medium to accomplish this errand is named as “SWAYAM.” SWAYAM stands for Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds and aims to provide digital education country wide. He said that the government has already launched this policy in the year 2016 and offers about 380 online courses. He added that approximately 60,000 students have taken benefit from this course and have attained certificates through it.
The HRD minister illustrated SWAYAM as ‘Anytime Learning’ and aims to equip excellent quality education to the young aspirants at all levels whether it may be school going students or graduates or even post graduates. Swayam portal seeks to provide efficient study platform for all of them through a single network targeting around 10 lakh students.
Mr. Javadekar said that many massive courses such as managerial economics, financial management, environmental chemistry, forensic science, anthropology, literature, library management, cognitive science, social psychology, population studies, retail management, etc. will be made available online for the students to benefit out through these online open courses. These courses can be easily accessed on computers as well as mobiles, in this way India will be able to develop the quality of education prevailing in the country at the present scenario.
SWAYAM aims to reach out the students who are deprived of education, especially the girls who are not able to go to schools and still long for quality education. The fundamental goal of this government initiative is to restructure the teacher student education system and digitalize education portfolio for the betterment of the country. The country’s education system can have a changed look by making a parallel approach of digitalised studies along with the regular education.
