A disciplined death bowling assisted led by newly engaged Zaheer Khan and some help from the pitch helps them beat RPS team by 7 runs in a tense chase.

Delhi won the toss and elected to bat first but they were off to a terrible start after Sanju Samson was run out in the first over and Shreyas Iyer edge one to Dhoni and his team was reduced to 11 for 2. It was Rishabh Pant and Karun Nair who rescued the team by adding 74 runs partnership for the third wicket before Pant was outdone by Zampa on 36. Magnificent Dhoni once again showed fast hands skills behind the wickets as he stumped inform Corey Anderson when he was on 5. Home team struggled to stay on the crease with Karun Nair who was dismissed in the penultimate over but not before his 64 off 45 balls.

Delhi put 168 runs on the scoreboard and as per Steven Smith it was a par score. In the chase, Zaheer Khan removed both the RPS openers for a single digit score which slowed down the visitors right from the first ball of the inning. Their chase was about two partnerships – 38 runs between Smith and Tiwary and 51 runs between Tiwary and Stokes. When stokes was dismissed, Pune required just 44 off 26 balls but inform Shami first dismissed Stokes on 33 and then accounted for Dhoni’s run-out. From Pune’s perspective now, they find themselves in what virtually be a knock-out situation against a team on the rise because Kings XI Punjab is playing quite well and soon. Both teams play their final game on May 14 at MCA Stadium in Pune.
